No Ads Experience Needed: From Signup to Your First Facebook Ad

The short version: A Meta ad traditionally takes two people — a designer for the creative, a media buyer for the campaign. This guide breaks both jobs down to “click this button.” Part 1 (signup through first creative) is for everyone. Part 2 has two paths: build it yourself if you’re not technical, or hand it to an agent if you are.

Two things to know before you start:

  • Building a campaign costs nothing. Money only moves once you hit Publish and the ad clears review. Everything before that is reversible.
  • Generating creative in AutoWhisper costs credits, and new accounts get free ones. Enough to run the whole flow once before you decide to pay.

Part 1: Signup to First Creative (everyone does this)

Step 1: Sign up for AutoWhisper

  1. Go to autowhisper.xyz and click Get started (top right).
  2. Sign up with email or Google.
  3. You land in the CMO workspace — your products and Feed on the left, a chat with your AI CMO on the right.

💡 New accounts get free credits, enough for your first batch of creative. Run the flow first, decide about paying later.

Step 2: Add your product

This step decides the quality of everything downstream. Don’t rush it.

You need three things:

What Notes Common mistake
Product name The name you actually sell it under Not your company name or category
One-line description In your own words — what it is, what problem it solves ❌ Pasting marketing copy from your site
Main image A real photo of your product, sharp, whole product visible ❌ A stock photo or placeholder

How:

  1. In the chat, just say: “I want to add a product.”
  2. The CMO will ask for name, description, image. Giving all three at once is faster:

“Add a product. Name: YIBAI Slow Juicer. Description: a slow juicer with an 80mm feed chute — you drop a whole apple in without cutting it. Image: https://your-image-link”

  3. No image URL? Use the upload button under the chat box to send a local file — the CMO picks it up automatically.
Click it yourself
Type in the CMO Chat box: "Add a product. Name: [X]. Description: [in your own words]. Image: [URL]"
Hand it to your agent
Add my product — name, one-line description in my own words, and a real product image URL

⚠️ The description must be your own plain words. The AI treats it as “what the founder actually said” and builds on it. Paste polished marketing copy and you get back a pile of correct-sounding nothing. Write it the way you’d describe it to a friend.

⚠️ The main image must be a real product photo. Every sales image and lifestyle shot is generated using it as the anchor. A stock or placeholder main image means the generated creative isn’t your product.

After you add it, if your product is physical the CMO will ask for dimensions and 2–3 photos from different angles. Give them to it — multi-angle references are the single biggest factor in keeping the product consistent across generated images.

Free credits are enough to try the flow. Getting a batch of creative you’d actually run behind ads usually needs a top-up.

Where: click your credit balance (top right of the nav bar) → Wallet → pick a plan.

What a dollar buys:

  • 1 credit = $0.10
  • Starter: 300 credits/month (about $30)

What a full video costs:

Part Credits
Script / concept 3
First frame 6
Video render 50
Total ~59 credits

So 300 credits ≈ 5 full videos, or many more static images (sales images and lifestyle shots are far cheaper).

💡 Minimum viable setup for ads: start with Starter and generate 6–8 static images (a mix of sales images and lifestyle shots). That’s exactly enough to race creatives in one ad set — fewer than 4 tells you nothing, more than 8 is wasted this early.

⚠️ Credits never expire. Unused credits carry over, so buying ahead isn’t a risk.

Step 4: Connect your Facebook account

Not strictly required to run ads, but worth doing — it lets the CMO post to your Page directly and read real engagement data back into future creative.

  1. Workspace switcher (top left) → Workspace Settings → Platform Connection.
  2. Find Facebook, click Connect.
  3. You’re sent to Facebook’s authorization screen. Log in, select the Page you want to link, approve.
  4. Back in AutoWhisper, Facebook should now show a green Connected.
Click it yourself
Workspace switcher (top left) → Workspace Settings → Platform Connection tab → Facebook → Connect
Hand it to your agent
Connect my Facebook Page — give me the authorization link to click

⚠️ You need a Facebook Page. A personal profile won’t do. Every Meta ad runs as a Page, so without one you’ll get stuck later.

Don’t have one? Facebook → left menu PagesCreate new Page → brand name, a category, a profile picture. Two minutes — you don’t need to fill in everything.

⚠️ Page not showing during authorization? Usually you’re not an admin of that Page, or a permission toggle was left off. Disconnect and redo it, and on the permissions screen make sure every toggle is on.

Step 5: Generate your first creative

Now the actual work.

In the chat, say:

“Generate 4 sales images and 4 lifestyle shots for the YIBAI Slow Juicer.”

Click it yourself
Type in the CMO Chat box: "Generate 4 sales images and 4 lifestyle shots for [product]"
Hand it to your agent
Generate 4 sales images and 4 lifestyle shots for [product] — no video, no trust posts

What each type is (ads use the first two):

Type What it looks like Usable as an ad?
Sales image Product plus a one-line hook, poster-style ✅ Yes, drop it straight in
Lifestyle shot A real person using it, like a friend’s post ✅ Yes, drop it straight in
Video (talking-head / story / product demo) 15-second short ⚠️ Yes, but upload manually (see below)
Trust post / social copy Text post ❌ Cover is often a placeholder — not ad material

Generation takes a few minutes. That’s normal. The CMO replies “generating in the background” and the pieces appear in the Feed as they finish. Don’t nudge it and don’t re-order — re-ordering charges you twice.

⚠️ Important: a workspace only sees its own products. If you run several workspaces (one per brand, say), the CMO can only see the one you’re currently in. Switch with the dropdown at the top left — the conversation, products and creative all switch with it.

Ask it in workspace A to work on a product that lives in workspace B and it will tell you it doesn’t see that product here and ask you to switch. That’s correct behavior, not a bug.

When the creative lands, open each one in the Feed. Don’t like one? Just say: “Redo #2, different angle.”

Part 2: Build the Campaign (pick one path)

You have the creative. Now turn it into an actual ad.

Path A: build it yourself Path B: let an agent build it
For whom Not technical at all Comfortable configuring AI tools
Setup needed None Two MCPs
Time ~30 min the first time ~20 min one-time setup, then 5 min per campaign
Where targeting advice comes from AutoWhisper hands it to you; you fill it in The agent builds it directly

Not sure? Start with A. Doing it once teaches you what the ads back end is actually doing — which is exactly what you need to judge whether an agent did it right later.

Path A: Build it yourself in Meta Ads Manager

A-1: Get targeting advice from AutoWhisper first

Don’t guess your countries or audiences. In the CMO chat, say:

“Tell me how to advertise this product.”

Click it yourself
Open CMO Chat, click "Get your ad plan for this product" (or type "how do I advertise this product")
Hand it to your agent
Give me a concrete ad-targeting plan for this product — starting markets, targeting, and what to avoid

You get back a targeting advice card with:

  • Which markets to start in (grounded on your product and what’s actually running online right now)
  • How to set interest / behavior targeting
  • What to avoid
  • Which optimization objective to pick

Screenshot it or copy it down — you’ll fill it in next.

💡 If you already know where your real customers came from, say so: “My customers are mostly in the US and Canada — tell me how to advertise this.” You’ll get sharper advice. If you don’t know, don’t invent it — just ask. Not knowing is exactly why you’re asking.

A-2: Download the creative

  1. Open the image you want in the AutoWhisper Feed.
  2. Click Download Image.
  3. Repeat for all 6–8 and put them in one folder.

A-3: Build the campaign in Ads Manager

Go to business.facebook.com → menu (top left) → Ads Manager → green + Create.

① Pick an objective

Use whatever the A-1 card told you. If it didn’t say:

  • Want people to visit your siteTraffic
  • Want inquiries / sign-upsLeads
  • Want to sell directlySales

② Campaign level

  • Campaign name: something you’ll understand in three months, e.g. YIBAI_Juicer_Traffic_US-CA-UK_2026-08
  • Campaign budget optimization (CBO): turn it off for now — budget is easier to control one level down.
  • Leave everything else at default. Next.

③ Ad set level — this is the one that matters

  • Budget: your daily amount (Part 3 covers how to pick it).
  • Locations: the countries from the A-1 card. Running several countries together is correct — don’t narrow to one.
  • Audience: ⚠️ add nothing. No interests, no age or gender narrowing. Let Meta’s Advantage+ Audience find people.
  • Placements: ⚠️ leave it on Advantage+ Placements. Don’t hand-pick.

The most important rule for beginners: Meta’s defaults are already right, and you make them worse by touching them. You used to have to hand-pick audiences and placements. Now the defaults are already optimized. Narrowing by hand usually locks out the very buyers you want. Go broad and let the creative do the filtering.

④ Ad level — upload the creative

  • Identity: pick your Page.
  • Ad creative: choose Image, upload what you downloaded in A-2.
  • ⚠️ One image per ad. Testing 4 images means 4 separate ads in that ad set, one image each — that’s the only way to learn which one works. Stuff all four into one carousel and you can’t tell which did the work.
  • Primary text / Headline: have the CMO write these — “Write 3 versions of Facebook ad copy for this sales image” — and pick one.
  • Website URL: your landing page.
  • ⚠️ Turn OFF “Advantage+ creative.” It auto-crops, filters and rewrites your copy. Leave it on during testing and you can’t tell whether the image worked or Meta’s edit did.
    • Where: scroll down in the ad level to Advantage+ creative enhancements and switch all of them off.
    • Don’t confuse this with the above: keep Advantage+ for audience and placements; turn off only the creative one.

⑤ Final check before publishing

  • Each ad has a Preview on the right — switch to Facebook Feed and see the real thing.
  • Happy? Hit Publish.

⑥ Wait for review

Meta reviews for a few minutes to a few hours. Money only starts moving after it’s approved.

Rejected? The two usual causes:

  • Copy contains a specific price or an overreaching promise → soften it and resubmit
  • Image flagged as AI-generated without disclosure → add the disclosure it asks for

Path B: Let an AI agent build it

Two MCPs to configure; after that you just talk.

B-1: What you need

  1. An MCP-capable AI client: Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, Claude Code, etc.
  2. Your AutoWhisper API token: autowhisper.xyz → Settings → Connect your agent → copy the token.

B-2: Connect AutoWhisper

Add this to your MCP client config (swap in your token):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "autowhisper": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "autowhisper-mcp"],
      "env": { "AUTOWHISPER_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

Or use the skill (for Claude Code / clawdbot):

npx skills add xnjiang/autowhisper-skill
mkdir -p ~/.config/autowhisper
echo '{"api_token":"YOUR_TOKEN"}' > ~/.config/autowhisper/credentials.json

B-3: Connect Meta’s official Ads MCP

We deliberately don’t pin a specific package or command here — this is the step where you’d be pasting an API token, and third-party names for this drift. Go to Meta’s own documentation and follow whatever install path it currently gives your client: Meta’s Ads MCP documentation. If your client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.) ships a built-in Facebook / Meta Ads connector, that’s usually the path of least resistance — find it in settings, click Connect, authorize with your Facebook account.

Restart your client after configuring.

B-4: What to say

① Get the image links

“Give me the image links for the sales images and lifestyle shots for the YIBAI Slow Juicer. No videos, no trust posts.”

⚠️ Always name the product. And note: the agent only sees your current workspace. If you run several, ask it to list my workspaces first and name the one you want — it cannot reach across them.

② Have it build the campaign (say it all in one go)

“Using those sales images and lifestyle shots, build a campaign in my Meta ad account driving traffic to yourdomain.com. Target the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand. Keep the audience broad with Advantage+ on — no manual interests. Turn Advantage+ creative OFF, I want a clean test of each image. Put 4 ads in one ad set, one image each. Leave everything PAUSED — do not launch. Name things properly. Send me the previews when it’s built.”

Click it yourself
Build it by hand in Meta Ads Manager (see Path A above) — same targeting, same "leave paused" rule
Hand it to your agent
Using those images, build a paused campaign in my Meta ad account targeting [countries], Advantage+ audience on, Advantage+ creative off, one ad per image, don't launch — send me previews

③ Review

You get preview links. Not happy? Say “swap #2 for a lifestyle shot” or “shorten that headline” — it edits and shows you again.

⚠️ Nothing has cost a cent at this point. Building, editing and previewing all happen paused. The only step that spends money is you saying “launch.”

Part 3: Set the Budget (both paths)

This is the one decision an agent can’t make for you.

How much per day

The core principle: the budget has to be enough for the ad to learn.

Meta’s algorithm needs data to find the right people. An ad set needs roughly 50 conversions per week to stabilize. Working backwards:

Your cost per conversion Minimum daily budget
$2 (e.g. a site sign-up) $15–20
$5 (e.g. a lead form) $35–50
$20 (e.g. a direct sale) $140–200

⚠️ Too small a budget means it never learns. A few dollars a day won’t produce results no matter how good the creative is — that’s not a creative problem, it’s too little money for the algorithm to learn from.

Better to run fewer days at a real daily number than to spread it thin. $20/day for 7 days beats $5/day for 28.

Where to enter it

Path A: at the ad set level, under Budget, choose Daily budget (not Lifetime).

Path B: just say “Set the budget to $20 a day.”

After it’s live

Add tracking (strongly recommended):

“Add UTM tracking to these ads, using dynamic parameters to carry the ad name.”

Then AutoWhisper itself can tell you which ad produced a signup — you’re not stuck reading Meta’s dashboard alone.

DSA declaration for UK/EU: on publish, Meta may ask for the beneficiary / payer. Put your company or brand name. Don’t skip it.

Judgment Discipline: Don’t Fool Yourself

Once the ads run, reading the data is where people actually go wrong:

  • Cheaper clicks ≠ better results. Meta optimizes for the cheapest click by nature, and will quietly pour budget into the cheapest country while starving the market you actually want. Look at cost per signup, not cost per click.
  • Don’t narrow on a hunch. Go broad, let the creative filter. Once Meta gives you the breakdown by region/age/gender, narrow on the data, not on your instinct.
  • Impressions and clicks are not progress. The only number that matters: what a real customer costs you.
  • Video usually converts better than static (it reads as a person sharing, not an ad). But video has to be uploaded by hand — the agent can’t do it. Two minutes uploading a video may be the highest-return two minutes you spend.

FAQ

Q: I’ve never run ads. Can I really do this alone? Yes. Path A is written to the button. About 30 minutes the first time, 10 the second.

Q: Could I accidentally spend a lot of money? No. Building costs nothing, and after publishing you spend at the daily budget you set. That’s a hard ceiling.

Q: What if a creative fails or I don’t like it? Say “redo #3” in the chat. Failed generations are refunded automatically.

Q: I have several brands — can I manage them together? Yes, with workspaces. Each has its own products, creative and conversation. ⚠️ The CMO sees one workspace at a time — switch with the dropdown at the top left.

Q: Can I actually run video? Yes, but the ads MCP can’t upload video for you. Build the static-image ads as above, then upload the video yourself in Ads Manager — a few clicks in the UI.

Who This Replaces

A Meta ad used to take two people:

  • The designer’s job: creative generated by AutoWhisper’s AI CMO — sales images, lifestyle shots, video, in 10 languages, informed by what competitors are running.
  • The media buyer’s job: targeting advice handed to you directly by the CMO (Path A), or the whole campaign structure, naming and previews built in one pass by the agent (Path B).

What’s left for you is judgment: how much to spend, which number to watch, which creative to back, when to narrow. That part stays yours.

Next: Once the ads are running and you’ve got inquiries, turn them into real customers — see the judgment discipline in Turning AutoWhisper Content into Leads with TikTok and the email sequence templates for follow-up.
